Hi there,
Which fibre services can have a draytek router firewall as the first device rather than the BT Hub?
Solved! Go to Solution.
If you mean can you replace the BT hub with a Draytek router the answer is yes.
It will depend on which type of fibre package you have as regards whether or not it will need to be a modem/router device or just a router.
If you get/have digital voice then you need to have SH2 as first connection
Hi there,
I have fibre 1 at the moment but wanted to know my options on upgrading to a service which allowed me to use put a draytek firewall as the first device.
Depending on which Draytek model you are talking about, either any (if you have a Vigor166) or any except G.Fast if you don't have a Vigor166
However, whatever the service is, you won't be able to use BT's Digital Voice service unless you use the SH2 as the first device.
Can you elaborate on what you mean by putting a draytec firewall first. How is the firewall you want to be implemented. Is it a standalone device and if so which one or is it a router that you want to use and if so which one.
What BT Hub are you presently using?
Are you on FTTC Fibre to the Cabinet or FTTP Fibre to the Premises broadband?
Hi there,
It's a Draytek 2862, we also have digital voice and it's a BT Hub2.
So from the internal wall box the fibre connects to the Draytek and not the BT Hub, I plan to connect the BT Hub to a port of the Draytek to provide wireless access, not sure if it will work that way.
I believe it's FTTP as it's hone broadband.
Digital voice won't work in that configuration. The SH2 needs to be connected to the ONT directly.
Hi,
Is there any way I can use the Draytek router like with a V166?
It's nothing to do with the Draytek. Digital voice will only work with the BT hub connected directly to the ONT.
You can use the Draytek how you like if you don't require Digital Voice.
