ive moved into s new build which now has a fibre modem installed so I have been able to order a n internet package through bt but have been told an engineer needs to visit prior to activation. (not until 10th jan) 😞 why would another visit be required ? given the modem is installed and apparently working and registered fine I thought this should be a simple activationwithout the need of an engineer to visit?

That is usually the case.
Can you enter your address on the Address Checker here: https://www.dslchecker.bt.com and post the results? Obviously, removing the address.
EDIT: Fixed URL
please can you check that url is correct?it gives me a blank page error 404
Oops, sorry about that!
For whatever reason, if I post the link it doesn’t work.
Please can you go to this website: https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/ and click the ‘Address Checker’ at the bottom, as I assume you won’t have a number yet.
Please post the results from Address Checker. Removing the address.
is this useful?

Ideally, I would need the whole page that you get.
But it does show that while you can get FTTP, it requires a two stage install (two engineers). This is what BT sees as well when ordering for your address.
Can you post a picture of the box in your home? There has been a few models, otherwise I would post a picture, but look for an Openreach Logo.
The rest of the page would be great, as this shows if they are aware of this modem.
You say the ONT is installed, registered and working. What colour are the lights?
