Re: planning to get myself an unlocked openreach modem

Just been reading about those ZyXEL's ( SBG3300-N & VMG8324 )

They look like they have the same chip brand as the HG612 3B ( broadcom) if I'm reading the info correctly ?

For me after the helpful advice its an unlocked ECI/r to pair with the cab.

Thanks kenny. Please keep me informed during this week if it was definitely worth it and your

connection is definitely more stable and able to maintain your proper estimated speed.

I came across this website below on how to set up this modem+router for use with BT Infinity.

Are these the same settings you used? also, did you update to the

latest firmware for this modem+router?

Re: planning to get myself an unlocked openreach modem

Thanks a lot kenny. Hopefully this modem+router will be the best one and is

able to keep your connection stable and without dropping out so much.

Re: planning to get myself an unlocked openreach modem

It seems obvious to me that a lot of the problems are caused by the mis-use of TR069 to throttle connections using the BTAgent in the modem and PTM 301 on the router. This is easily solved by turning these options off in an unlocked modem or using 3rd party hardware that doesn't respond to the commands.

Re: planning to get myself an unlocked openreach modem

Thanks Kenny for the update.

I have took the plunge and place an order for the

ZyXEL SBG3300-N Router earlier this morning.

It should be delivered by tuesday.

Re: planning to get myself an unlocked openreach modem

Well I received my ZyXEL SBG3300-N yesterday and so

far I am very pleased with this modem+router.

I have just noticed that my interleave depth is quite

high at 949 and so suggests that I am receiving a

lot of noise or other interference.

so far I have been connected for 19 hours and

without any dropouts since I connected the

ZyXEL SBG3300-N to my line yesterday afternoon.

Can you give me a bit more info on what to do with TR069 and PMT 301, the only thing I know about those is to stay clear of the wife!
I know how to switch the BTagent off but I'm unsure what the other two do.
