Re: planning to get myself an unlocked openreach modem

Hi Kenny.

Have you tried enabling the PhyR option for your upstream rate

(PhyR US) via the Advanced settings to see whether it makes

any difference to your upload sync and speed?

I noticed this option is enabled by default for downstream but is

disabled by default for upstream.

I wonder if enabling this option also for the upstream rate

would help at all.

Re: planning to get myself an unlocked openreach modem

Could I ask if these use the same Broadcom based chip as the HG612 3B

Thanks

Barry

Re: planning to get myself an unlocked openreach modem

just enabled it no marked increase but will leave it running for a few days as it might pick up but looking at my line stats and speed tests over last week it looks like my upload is set at 6mb, downloads have been around 42 to 48

kenny

PS:  before i got connected my estimated download was 51, i was told by BT last week that i should only be getting 31mb!!!

so i am paying for infinity 2 but in reality i should only be able to get infinity 1 which means i was sold a product that they could never deliver, Im  looking at T&C  to see if i can get out of contract, if i can then i will be off to another ISP

Thanks Kenny for responding.

For me, the ZyXEL SBG3300-N is definitely a lot better than the HH5 and OR modems.

Yes the ZyXEL SBG3300-N is based on the Broadcom chip.

Re: planning to get myself an unlocked openreach modem

Hi Kenny.

One thing I wanted to ask you is do you have any idea what the V100AADY3C0.w

file is for in the the firmware upgrade package for the ZyXEL SBG3300-N?

I just used the V100AADY3C0.bin file to upgrade the main firmware but I have

no idea if the other file is automatically flashed as well or if this file is used to

upgrade the WWAN Package or if it is just the same main firmware but in

another type of file format.

Re: planning to get myself an unlocked openreach modem

Any idea what sort of cabinet this is? (ECI or the other type)

Picture is 2 years old so I don't know if it's been updated lately. I'll go hunt it down at some point but I was curious if anyone knew from this.

That's a telephone cab, not a fibre cab.

Okay. Well that's #8, so I guess it's been changed since that pic was taken. I'll have to go down and give it an eyeballing.

Re: planning to get myself an unlocked openreach modem

AN update after now using both types of modem on an ECI cabinet.

Found the HG612 3B running the newer  "No BT software" is not that far behind the ECI r either in sync or errors.

Yes the ECI r is still  better on speed / errors but the HG612 3B is far more user friendly if your new to this & at the moment my line is still "interleave off" with a current ES error rate of less than 10 per hour. {Which I think is ok - I'm still learning this stuff myself }

Will see how things look after another 7 days but so far the Huawei has surpassed expectations.
