"Upgraded" to BT Fibre Essentials - "Downgrade" in speed.

Hi All.

So, enticed by the sparkly offers of 56Mbs and a half price deal, I finally converted to Essential Fibre on Thursday. We are somewhat out in the sticks and realistically, didn't expect a huge jump in download speeds. The nearest cabinet is about a mile away, so it's copper for most of it to our house.

So, before the upgrade we had a measly 7Mbs and now..... it's 4Mbs!!! 😞

The test was via a hard wired ethernet cable.

As a non-techie, what if anything can be done to solve this? Why is standard BB quicker than Fibre?

Is it possible to revert back to the old line and cancel this awful service?

Re: "Upgraded" to BT Fibre Essentials - "Downgrade" in speed.

Standard broadband is delivered from the exchange, 'fibre' broadband from the green cabinet. The higher frequencies used by VDSL (fibre broadband) are attenuated much more by distance than ADSL (standard broadband) so there comes a crossover point where ADSL over a longer distance is faster than VDSL over a shorter (but long, if that makes sense) distance.

Thanks for explaining. On the face of it, looks like we'd be better off returning to ADSL.

You can receive a higher speed through VDSL. Can you post the line stats?

Just copy and paste the line stats from the technical log found in the advanced settings of your Hub interface.
