I was sick of paying 50+ a month for broadband and phone. So went to comparison site, could get slightly faster for 24 quid a month with sky, so signed up.
Then this afteroon BT called me, or at least someone who said he was from BT, and offered me basically the same as sky deal.
Said because I was in a cooling off period, and my switch date is not til Sep 1st, I can cancel the switch to Sky?
Sounds a bit fishy. I told him I'd think about it and hung up.
I checked number on who-called-me
Phone number 01438xxxxxx is most commonly reported as a BT Impersonation Scam
01438 xxxxxx is landline located in Stevenage, England and assigned to Invosys Limited.
Even more fishy.
Any advice?
Getting called by the losing provider, with a much improved offer to stay ( once they are notified that you are switching ) is pretty common, it’s not just BT when they are losing a customer that does this , every provider does , so that isn’t suspicious at all , you could have asked for the details of the retention offer to be emailed to you , two benefits to that , one , to verify the company calling you , and secondly a record of the price being offered by retentions , or you could call BT yourself , and ask if it’s been noted on your account of this retention offer to remain .
Obviously if you do chose to stay , you need to advise Sky of that decision.
@jm1940 BT/EE are I believe co located in a very large call centre in Stevenage so no concerns there regarding the authenticity of the call. When I put my switch in to move to Plusnet at 6am on a Monday morning, at 9am, my mobile was ringing like St. Paul’s for the next two days. I never bothered answering the phone and BT couldn’t be bothered to leave a voicemail or email me so I ended up having to permanently block the number as a nuisance caller.
Its a massive shame really as I obviously got a much better deal switching to Plusnet with a great Reward Card offering all because BT weren’t prepared to offer me a new customer price via MyBt to stay. I have absolutely zero interest in talking to a customer services person either, so it was easier believe it or not, just to switch rather than beg for a deal. It’s a great way to do business 😂
