router reset to maintain connection

I have had BT infinity for 9 months with few problems and infrequent resets required. The modem was changed by BT about a month ago because they were having problems with it apparently. Since then (maybe coincidence) the hub needs frequent resetting sometimes every hour or so. The internet connection to the main computer is fine but all other laptops and phones lose internet connection between 30 minutes to an hour of the reset. There are 4 phones using it plus 4 laptops. Although phones may be used together it is very rare for all the laptops to be used together - if ever. The problem has been getting worse over the last week and the wireless connection is only restored by a reset. It will not do it by itself and all the lights on the hub are blue as if it is working satisfactorily. There is an orange flashing light at the back of the modem but I'm not sure whether that has always been there. I am extremely ignorant in these matters but have 3 grumpy teenagers who want their wifi back and would appreciate some help!!

Re: router reset to maintain connection

What you’ve described does not sound like a fault with the modem but with the Home Hub, there should be no real reason for the modem to affect all the devices accept one – I do however know that the Hub likes to drop-out of too much data is streamed at one-time. The orange light on the back of the modem is perfectly normal, it’s an Ethernet indicator showing you the device is plugged in. I would call BT and ask for a replacement hub or purchase a cable router to replace the hub with.

Many thanks. I'll phone BT tomorrow and talk to them about the hub.

Hi folks,

You shouldn't have to reset your Homehub to get the wireless connection back. Take a look at the links below and see whether they help at all:

Re: router reset to maintain connection

I've had the same issues and the only answer seems to be get a new router not a BT HH though!
