I have a BT Sim only plan and have just purchased a new 5G compatible phone to replace my old 4G phone.. Do I need to request a replacement sim to receive 5G?

Re: 5g Sim

BT don't offer 5G. If you have have a 5G capable iPhone from BT then you will receive an EE 5G SIM

Re: 5g Sim

@Anonymous  that's not correct, there's been posts on here recently advising that if you change to a new sim plan (available from september) you get access to 5g

Re: 5g Sim

From the help pages:

“What do I need to get 5G?

To use 5G, you will need a 5G ready SIM, in a 5G enabled device. All of our SIM Only plans bought since 1 September 2020 come with SIMs that are 5G ready, so you’re all set to make the most of everything 5G has to offer. You just need to use the SIM in a 5G device and to be in a 5G area.

BT Mobile currently do not currently sell 5G ready handset plans. We'll let you know when we start doing so.

If you bought a handset plan from us before 1 September 2020, you will retain your 5G plan, meaning you will still have access to 5G speeds when in a 5G area.

You need to be in a 5G area for 5G to work. See where 5G is available with our coverage checker.”

It won’t work on Family Sim plans - I know from experience as BT are currently changing my plan back to individual 5G plans.

The phones and the plans may be 5G enabled but show me a BT 5G plan.

Go to https://www.bt.com/mobile/phones and scroll down the page to this bit.

Re: 5g Sim

@Anonymousthe OP said they have a SIMO plan to use in conjunction with a SIM free phone they have purchased separately and BT SIMO plans clearly state  "All our SIM Only plans are 4G and 5G enabled".

You are gibbering on about the lack of 5G handsets tied to a monthly contract for some reason.

Re: 5g Sim

OK, so point me to a BT 5G plan then.

Surely it's obvious that BT use EE Branded SIMs to provide 5G. Not that it matters as BT own EE.
