I see now BT Halo is here.
Says if on HALO & have BT Mobile - its 5G (see also 100Gig offer also)
However, is not so clear as mobile still says and for upgrades say 4G
The also unclear is difference between Extra Speed & Fastest
(/ on my Mobile say 10 Gig Extra Speed then Fastest 90Mbs)
So, question is - if on HALO - are we now auto updated to 5G (/ ie . If I put my SIM in a 5G compatible device & move into 5G coverage area will it work in 5G)
From what I understand being a Halo customer is just a prerequisite for a 5G plan. You won’t get an automatic upgrade, you’ll need to apply for it.
As a Halo customer you do get ‘fastest’ 4G speed which is nominally 90Mbps Max but could be faster if your base station has more carriers.
To confirm what I posted previously the BT 5G webpage is clear:
Choose Superfast or Ultrafast broadband with Halo to unlock exclusive access to 5G.How do I get 5G?
You’ll need to be a Halo broadband customer with a 5G phone plan.
5G on BT: only available to Halo customers.
So - am a Halo customer - but mobile still says 4G & even if I select option to 'change' (/upgrade mobile) - am only offered fasted 4G - so is rather confusing.
Hi - my phone is not 5G but wanted clarity before upgrading. Being step 1 ensure sim 5G then invest in the phone rather than get a phone & cant get 5G.
For what it's worth, my understanding of https://www.bt.com/mobile/5g/
First you should use the coverage checker.

If you're a Halo customer and request a 5G SIM for a 5G phone in an area where 5G is not yet available then you will get 4G service in that area and a 5G service if you enter an area where 5G is available
"....5G phone plan." suggests that it's not just a case of asking for a 5G sim to replace an existing sim, but a new plan needs to be taken out, which may turn out to be an additional cost. It's a bit vague however you read it and the best option therefore is to call.
5G is an optional addon for Halo customers for an extra monthly cost, only Halo customers can currently have 5G.
