My move to BT

I have recently moved to BT mobile from Vodafone. I have kept my Vodafone number. BT tell me that the transfer has taken place, but my iPhone and IMessage won’t let me change my number. iMessage is using the BT number not my transferred number and I can’t change it. Anyone else had this problem and do you have a fix. Thank you
