No mobile data in crowded places

Why do I lose connection to even basic services in crowded places even though I can see people around me using their phones without issue?

Re: No mobile data in crowded places

It could be because the mast that is supplying the data has only a limited number of connections available and as a result it can not keep up with the demand and either drops the connection or does not allow a connection until there is available space.

Most mobile companies upgrade capacity when they become aware of the problem but that takes time to update the necessary equipment.

It could of course be an issue with your mobile phone if it happens all the time at any location.

Re: No mobile data in crowded places

Thanks - I’m wondering if it is my phone, but it only happens in certain places. For example, when I’m sitting in a particular football ground.  I know there is likely to be capacity issues with everyone trying to use the signal at the same time, but I can literally never get online while all those around me seem to have no problem!

Re: No mobile data in crowded places

Hi @Pleasehelp1

Welcome to the community.

It isn't likely to be anything with your phone, but is the amount of people using the network. I get the same when I'm at a Newcastle match, I struggle to connect as there is more people using the network during that time.

I've found that turning airplane mode on for a couple of minutes or restarting the phone, can help to get a connection working.

Re: No mobile data in crowded places

EE transmits signals on a variety of frequency bands. Some handsets can use multiple bands from multiple cell sites simultaneously. So many variables.

EE also now sell plans that you pay extra for vip priority treatment in crowded places.
