I am buying a new SIM only iPhone for my BT SIM contract.
I want to unlock my current iPhone 7 and resell it.
The phone was originally part of a Vodafone contract but I unlocked it and put my BT SIM in it.
I spoke to two different people at BT: first said it's £8.99 to unlock the phone; the second said all BT phones (later models) are automatically unlocked.
Which one is correct?

If you unlocked it from Vodafone so that you could use a BT SIM and it worked it means your phone is unlocked and does not need to be unlocked again. It should work on any network now.
If you want to check just get a friend who has a different network to let you use their SIM in the phone to see if it connects OK.
