Why does (Android) WiFi Calling send your location to Google and Network Op?

Hi. I've just tried activating WiFi Calling on a new Android mobile and the process warns that WiFi Calling will send your location to Google and the Network Operator. I can think of no reason why that technically needs to be. Is it just Google and the Network grabbing info for its own purposes?

Does anyone know? Is it a genuine technical need or an info grab?
