With Wi-Fi Calling from BT Mobile you can now call and text over wi-fi in the UK. This is great news if you live in an area with poor coverage and can't use your mobile at home; just connect via wi-fi instead.
Here’s some info on which devices are compatible with Wi-Fi Calling.
For Wi-Fi Calling to work on your iPhone, you need to have an iPhone 5S or later. That means the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.
You’ll need to be running iOS 11.3 (or later). To make sure you have the latest software, go in to your phone settings, tap Software Update and install the latest update if available
Then, go to Settings then Phone. Tap Wi-Fi Calling, and toggle the button on to enable Wi-Fi Calling on your iPhone
We currently support Wi-Fi Calling on the Samsung S9 and the Samsung S9+ bought from BT Mobile.
If you didn’t buy your Android phone from BT Mobile, or it’s an older model, we can’t guarantee that it'll work with Wi-Fi Calling. This is because we can’t guarantee which firmware is installed on the device as this can depend on where you buy your device from.
However, a number of customers have told us that they’re able to use Wi-Fi Calling on other Android devices. These include but aren’t limited to:
Sony Xperia XA Dual, Xperia XZ1, Xperia XZ1 Compact
Please note that if your handset is listed above, you should check whether you can use Wi-Fi Calling by looking for the "Wi-Fi Calling" switch in your phone's call settings and turning it on.
How can I tell if my handset is compatible?
You can check whether your handset is compatible by visiting My BT and scrolling down to the ‘Phone and SIM’ section. Or you can check in the BT Mobile app in the ‘Phone connectivity’ section.
As we can only guarantee the service will work on certain handsets, it will only show as compatible where we know that it will work. If your handset is one of the ones that may work with Wi-Fi Calling, it won’t show as compatible.
To check whether Wi-Fi Calling is working correctly on your handset, try switching it on and making a call wherever you have wi-fi but no mobile signal. You should also see a Wi-Fi Calling icon in the notification bar of your phone.
