Can someone clarify if the BT Sport package( apparently £16 per month) includes HD as I cannot find any reference to it or an add on anywhere?

No, it doesn't.  Only the VIP package includes HD as standard (you'll see the description says "Full HD channels including BT Sport HD, and Sky Sports HD from NOW Boost").

If you follow the order journey online, you should find that it'll offer HD as an add-on.
