BT Vision V2 problems finally explained

    Recording problems on New Look BT Vision

 

Hi all

 

We’re aware that New Look BT Vision has a software problem which affects stability and causes recordings to fail for some customers. We understand this is really frustrating, sorry for the inconvenience.

 

The software in the New Look Vision Set Top Box is being affected by changes on the Freeview network including Digital switchover, channel moves, and channel re-names which cause one of the set top box tuners to lock and not respond when a recording is due to start.

 

A reboot unlocks the tuner so if you turn the box off at the mains and switch it back on it will help to avoid these problems. The problem can reoccur later following another Freeview change.

We know there are Freeview changes on 12th and 17th October that will cause this problem for some customers. This could affect any customer on our New Look BT Vision base. Each time a Freeview change is made, we see a spike in recording failures and crashes.

 

We need to rollout new STB software. We have this software under test but cannot say yet when it will be deployed. Fixing this issue is the highest priority in BT Vision and the fix will be rolled out as soon as possible.

Ahh! a breath of fresh air, BT being open and honest.

 

If as they say this is the highest priority within BTvision, would it not be sensible to "look outside the box" and seek other avenues for the solution, it may be that somebody within BT is a Linux expert who could quickly analyse  the software and come up with the solution, if not maybe an appeal for a proven expert in this field could be made to the Linux community.

BT may at last be open about their unstable software, but they continue to charge their customers monthly for their faulty product. BT's "customer care team" (various call centres scattered around the world) are also unaware of this issue. When I directed Rita from the call centre in Northern Ireland to this forum she told me that "we don't have time to look at forums". This company is shoddy.
