TV sports broadcaster Jake Humphrey is to be the face of BT’s Barclays Premier League football coverage.

Jake, 33, who fronted some of the BBC’s European Championships football coverage from Poland and Ukraine this summer, will be the studio anchor of BT Vision’s Barclays Premier League programming from the start of the 2013/14 season.

During ten years with the BBC, he has fronted Formula One coverage, the London 2012 Olympics for BBC1 and BBC3 and co-hosted the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

Speaking about his new role, Jake said: “I’m incredibly excited to be joining the team at BT not just because I get to fulfil a lifelong dream of presenting the Barclays Premier League but because of the fresh perspective that BT will bring to both sport and broadcasting in this country.”

Respected sources on twitter are suggesting Gabby Logan will also be following Jake to BT and leaving the BBC to front the Rugby coverage.

Marc Watson, chief executive of BT Vision, said: "We are absolutely delighted that Jake has chosen to join our new sports channel to anchor our Premier League programming.

"Jake is a tremendously experienced and popular sports broadcaster and a fresh, young and innovative talent.

"He impressed us with his willingness to get deeply involved in the development of our live football programming and we took into account his track record of excellent presenting across many sports.

"He fits our plans for the new channel perfectly and we are very excited to be working with him."

BT has signed up BBC presenter Jake Humphrey to anchor its coverage of Premier League football, starting next season, on a £250,000-plus annual salary.

Humphrey, who recently presented part of the BBC's London 2012 Olympic coverage but is best known for fronting Formula One, has signed a four-year contract with BT starting in January.

A spokesman for BT said the deal was not exclusive and that Humphrey could continue to work for the BBC outside of his contract period.

Jake Humphrey is regarded as one of the best presenters of his generation. He is also seen by many as the greatest formula 1 presenter of all time.

So he hasn't quit the BBC. Which is good news.

And this non-exclusive deal is much along the same lines as Claire Baldings with CH4. She will still be one of the faces of BBC Sport but will also be the main presenter of CH4 Racing too.

Rank - Mostly Harmless.

I agree.

The reason this has happened is his wife is expecting their first baby and Jake didn't want to be karted all around the world with the F1 circuit. So we may still see him presenting some European races, too.
