Re: Forum pages slow to load

What setting on my PC might single out this website as the only one where pages are slow to load please ?

Edit,

It took about 8 seconds for my reply to post

If you open up Windows Task Manager, you can set it to display always on top.
It's a fiddly process, but you can monitor such parameters as memory, processor usage and data speeds.

Edit

It took around your times to post this message: not sure to the second.

Re: Forum pages slow to load

Hi @Ribblelancs,

Thanks for the reply.  So you are also back to slow loading pages.  I can't understand how it is only affecting you and me, well we are the only ones posting about it.

I times how long it took to open this reply and it was 10 seconds.  This is certainly too long for an impatient person like me to do any browsing.

I can confirm that I have not seen any slowdown in pages opening on any other website.

It's not a problem. The BT forum pages are dynamic - always updating. Maybe if you look at other so called forums - it takes you 10 mins to  decide whether the website is safe, agree to cookies, accept cookies, cancel news popups, close long runnning scripts, etc.

News Media pages are slower to update, hence faster to load. They are only putting out news, not reacting to comments.  Can't say that it's a real problem. It all works, after all.
Christmas shopping is more of a priority at this time...Definitely not online shopping!
Takes some tact and diplomacy to collect all neighbours' online orders....Smiley Tongue

I take it that your pc's memory and cpu are not overloaded: that's the important point.
It also helps to do a good disk cleanup and defrag, at least weekly....

Have a good Christmas and best wishes for the Festive Season.

Re: Forum pages slow to load

Have you tried the RSS view page, to see if that is any quicker?

That RSS feed is provided by a @James-C and runs  on his own remote server, however when you open those links, it then goes back to the normal foum. So your issue is with the forum page itself.

Each forum page opens the following sites.

https://community.bt.com (46.19.168.101)

(93.184.220.97)

https://smetrics.bt.com (63.140.41.102)

https://d2oh4tlt9mrke9.cloudfront.net (13.35.242.81)

https://britishtelecom.demdex.net52.49.41.66

Its quite possible its one of those links not opening, or is very slow in opening, which is causing your problem.

If you use the Firefox web browser, with the NoScript addon, you can prevent each site in turn from loading, and possible find out which one is causing the slowdown.

His RSS feed is a quick way of reading the forum content, and can be added to an RSS reader like the one in Thunderbird, to create an archive of all posts.

Re: Forum pages slow to load

Or this simple jQuery page https://labs.jamesclarke.wales/btcareForum
That shows the latest posts when the page is refreshed.

Message 18 from @James-C, was very helpful.
It gives good results. The feeds are very quick to view, and the refresh is quick.

I'm having a Christmas free day, or a day  free of Christmas preparations. Have you tried downloading the new and improved, fully "assessed" Windows 10 1809 update on a pc which, fortunately, blocked the first issue a few weeks ago?
Back to the drawing boards....It works, almost, but it's going to take some time to sort out, to see what has been lost or changed.
3 hours to complete install. It's not the download time - it's the processing time.

I think it's the same for the Forum Pages: processing times.
