Activation charge

Can anyone explain why there is a £70 charge to activate a BT landline only, when you are returning. My Mum's been with italk but they don't have a plan with calls to mobiles, so I thought we'd return her to BT which was fine till halfway through quote and suddenly £70 added. Seems excessive.

Thank you,

                 Spotbot1.

Re: Activation charge

That's how much BT charge for line only setups, it's typically waived when you have broadband as well but if you don't have broadband with another company, it's still cheaper to pay the setup than to avoid it with having broadband as well.

Re: Activation charge

Given she'll be eventually forced to VOIP anyway, maybe a "dumb" mobile would be a better option? No setup charge & free calls to mobiles by default on even the cheapest monthly tariff.  Obviously depends on what signal is like at her address.

Re: Activation charge

Only landline needed, mum frail and has memory problems, if you know what I mean. It for emergencies only. Cheers

Re: Activation charge

Since Mum is elderly, she might benefit more from having a SIM only Doro phone. These phones are designed for simplicity and are recommended for the elderly.

I will take a chance and link their range - may be removed by Mods as advertising is not permitted on the forum.

Re: Activation charge

You can also get GSM desk phones to avoid the issues of forgetting to charge it or mislaying it.

@Carlusha

The posted link only point to the product website, and not directly to an e-commerce site, so should be fine.

Re: Activation charge

Keith was replying to @Carlusha who posted a link in message 5.

He was confirming it is ok to post links to products, but against forum rules to post links to e-commerce sites.
