Applying for BT Home Essentials Broadband

I’m assisting my son, who is autistic, in applying for the BT Home Essentials broadband service with a speed of 36 Mbps. I’m checking if this can be done online, but it seems you have to be a BT customer to apply. Is that true?

There was broadband installed at the property before, through TalkTalk, with a 36 Mbps service. Will that mean the engineers won’t need to do any installation work?

Since my son is autistic and vulnerable, I’d like to manage any contracts or paperwork for him. Is there a phone number I can call to arrange this?
