Having looked back this is a cut and paste of the initial email I got from BT on the 5th July 2023:

We'll be in touch to let you know your appointment date.
The engineer will visit you at:
Address of property 
An Openreach engineer will carry out an external survey before we provide an installation date. This can take up to 15 working days. They may fit a small box to the outside of your property, but you don't need to be home for this.
Once the survey's complete, we'll confirm your installation date. Your existing service will continue to work as normal in the meantime.

They only confirmed the installation date a week before it was installed so this was mid October 2023.

On this basis I have to agree I have no claim with BT sadly!
