Well that has to be the most frustrating and weird afternoon I have had for a long time. I spent a happy three hours in total speaking with both BT and EE although yes they are one and the same.
BT started by offering renewal for 900mbs at £57 a month, I actually laughed, what the hell is that all about?
Then literally a few seconds later I was offered £47.99, better but still not good enough for me, the operator then went away to try and do better but came back and said that is the cheapest he can do. I am out of contract
Next move to the EE site to try and place an order, all went ok until I was asked my existing supplier, at which point I was blocked from placing an order and directed to phone to arrange a migration from BT to EE.
*Question - I did think of putting either a different company or that I don't have an existing broadband provider but unsure how that would go
So now to phoning EE, again blocked from taking a new account and best price offered was the same at £47.99, I was then passed to the customer retention team and had the most ridiculous conversation you could believe, the operator must have thought I was stupid and took a really horrible and hard sales line, warning me that if I moved to Sky or another provider I would have lots of problems, talked about loads of technical stuff about why I would suffer and generally tried to scare me into taking the offer on the table. The only way I could get rid was by hanging up which I did in the end.
So I am now heading to SKY, or one of the other providers in my area. There are lots and I have FTTP via underground cables.
BT and EE you should be ashamed of yourselves with regards to how you are treating customers
I hope your move to your new provider goes as well as my own did, perfectly without a hitch.
Your experience on the phone is precisely the reason why I didn’t waste precious hours of my life talking to retentions; I just upped and left.
Truly despicable and desperate stuff playing on folks fears telling them they’ll have problems if they move. In the majority of cases, there won’t be a problem. I use my own router, I just had to change the ISP name and password and it worked.
