Being charged for leaving after the 12 months contract???

I have had an email saying the following

You'll need to pay £31.00 for stopping your BT services. This includes:

  • Charge for stopping your broadband - You'll need to pay  £31.00 for stopping your broadband.

Can you explain to me why I have this charge?? My contract was for 12 months and that had ended before I changed supplier.

Re: Being charged for leaving after the 12 months contract???

Its the charge made for disconnecting your broadband, unless you move to another provider who use the BT Wholesale infrastructure.

Re: Being charged for leaving after the 12 months contract???

It depens on how you did the transfer.

See

http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/dynamicmodules/pagecontentfooter/pageContentF...

"

Possible this.

  • Switch to another Broadband provider without following the standard transfer process*."

* This requires you to contact your new provider.

Re: Being charged for leaving after the 12 months contract???

I've received the exact same email also moving to sky this is after being told by BT in both email and letter that there will be no charges incurred for ending service. Also emailed to ask to return youview box even though out of contract and t&c state youview box becomes yours once out of contract.

All based on OFCOM directives re comtract cancelling.

Pleasant experience and discussions with BT.
