If a new BT customer wanted telephony with their broadband connection then it’s almost certainly going to be DV ( as already stated , the PSTN switch off coming along , so it makes sense for new connections to be provided with the non PSTN phone service , rather than providing PSTN and having to convert it to DV ( along with many many others ) at some point in the future but before the end of 2025.
Many consumers were complaining of paying for a ‘landline’ when they never made phone calls , although that was never really accurate, what presumably they really meant was , they didn’t use landline telephony so why are they charged for it , ( obviously broadband uses a line copper or fibre and it needs to be paid for via ‘line rental’ ).
BT have responded , and now offer broadband without the need to take telephony , and it’s a little cheaper too, so it’s would be a little odd for people to complain that the DV telephony service should be included with broadband, because you would still get the complaints of ‘why am I paying for a phone service I don’t use’ brigade.
It doesn’t matter if the phone service is DV or PSTN , consumers now have the choice , telephony or no telephony with their broadband, with the ‘no telephony’ option, there are no calls at all, no incoming , no outgoing , their is no dialtone , no phone number.
