I've just become aware of what I have been paying for my broadband service which came out of contract in June 2026, the cost is approx £76. looking at the current advertised cost for a broadband package that is equivalent to mine - 900 Mbps plus the wifi extension hubs for the top floors of the house - and price is £31.99 i.e less than half of what I am paying. I was told this price is only for new customers and not for loyal existing customers - I've been with BT for almost 20 years! Has anyone had a similar experience?
@Howard13 You may not appreciate reading this, but your 'loyalty' is misplaced. Loyalty does not pay, 20 years a customer or otherwise. This is why some of us constantly review the service we are getting and in many cases, regularly switch ISP if you cannot renegotiate a satisfactory monthly payment.
Worth pointing out too, you need to absolutely check that the prices you have seen take into account the whole package you currently have. There are consistent complaints from customers paying a similar amount to you who are actually paying for the Halo 3 add on for example, sometimes needlessly.
It is YOU that needs to take action. As you are out of contract, you can explore all of the packages available across all of the ISP's that service your locale. If you are beholden to BT, then that is your choice. Bear in mind that EE is the same company and they may well offer better deals than the BT brand plus they hand out arguably more up to date equipment. If you don't have or don't need a phone line, then Plusnet is another option if you wish to stay with the BT Group of companies.
I cannot stress this enough, loyalty does not pay!
Me thinks it's also time you checked on how much you've massively overpaying for your
Phone
House/car insurance
Car breakdown cover
if you sadly believed in loyalty
@Howard13 Oh yes. I’m afraid the concept of “customer loyalty” was turned on it’s head a long time ago. (And not just by BT). I only got a sensible price after I initiated a move to Sky.
there is no loyalty anymore that being said to say that customer service always been good t me
I think I’m more surprised that the OP states that they’ve only just become aware that they’re paying the amount they currently are each month. That does of course read as a criticism, but how do people find themselves in a position whereby they’re not keeping an eye on their own finances? I know exactly how much my utilities cost me, month by month, year by year. It’s basic money management.
Are you comparing like for like packages?
Do you have any add ons such as Halo or a phone package or TV etc which is not included with a basic 900 Mbps package.
