Re: Caller Display Charge from Jan 2014

New phones coming onto the market which have built in features to block unwanted, international and anonymous callers need "caller display" to be switched on. This new £1.75 a month charge is just a cynical move by BT to profit from others products/ideas, and to replace the revenue BT will lose when people abandon their call barring service. Being able to see the number/details of the caller is a basic minimum requirement. To charge for this is outrageous and cannot be justified on a cost basis.

Absoluitely. It's not as if it costs them anything anyway - the functionality is already there, built in to the system. Other providers tend to charge for Caller ID, especially BT resellers, but that's probably because BT are charging THEM for it.

Reagrding BT Sport - that started the same time as I started my Infinity package, so not an issue for me.

Thanks

Any one in a contract will not be paying for Caller ID. If you are out of contract and on a rolling monthly payment then you could be liable for charge.

Straight from the horses  Warren Buckley's mouth.

It's a long long read, and starts on page 31.

Caller Display

Just had email from BT saying

"If you have BT Privacy with Caller Display it will cost you £1.75 a month2 from 4 January 2014. But you can sign up and get BT Privacy with Caller Display free for a year (a new 12-month line rental contract applies)."

Currently I have Caller Display but not BT Privacy. Can anyone tell me if Caller Display (on it's own) will still be free from 4 Jan 2014?

Re: Price Rises and Caller Display

BT have no idea what 'simple' means. If I sign up for a new phone contract from January then my phone, line rental and Infinity B/B will all be tied to different dates, meaning that it will be extremely awkward and confusing to decide if and when to move to another provider without incurring (unknown/uncalculable) extra costs. As for hoping BT customer services will clarify anything ......

The only reason I moved back to BT was for Infinity broadband speeds. The competence and billing transparency of my old phone and B'band provider has been replaced right from the start by incompetence and obfuscation.

As already said. If you are in contract with the phone then YES it will be free. When your contract finishes ,unless you renew for a further year then you could be charged for Caller ID. At that time it would be your choice.

http://d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.net/no2nuisancecalls/mailings/9/attachments/original/Report_-_Inqui... will confirm it.

Page 31 I believe.

Re: Caller Display

It is only free because you have pre-registered for a new line contract from 04/01/14. All users who have contracts expiring after 04/01 still need to pre-register to get it free. This therefore ties in with Buckleys comments that if you are in a contract you get it free but it doesn't clarify the fact that you are having to recontract.

Re: Caller Display

It does, it says that to keep it after your contract is up you have to agree to a further 12 month contract or you will end up paying £1.75 a month. This might not be the case in the future because they are under pressure to ensure that it is free to all.

Again i will point you to the document in the posts above.

Here is part of what Warren Buckley said:

" So from January of next yearwe move to a position where if you want caller display you can have caller display for free, so long as you’re under contract with us and that’s the case with lots of our different
services, BT Smart Talk, a number of different services, it’s within the contract, you get
that free, that will stay on that basis. If however you don’t want a permanent contract
with BT and you want to just pay on a month to month also then they’d be a charge of
£1.75, which is less than the £2 that we were charging for the not making calls and is
significantly less than the £3.30. So what we’ve tried to do is to remove the confusion,
make it very clear that if you have a contract with us you get caller display for free, if
you’re on a month by month basis there’s a £1.75 charge."
