HI - I've just agreed to a new 24 month contract for 900Mb broad band and the BT sprts plus package.
What I wasn't told on the call was that the Sports package increases after 3 months. My question is (even though I only agreed today) if I ring up tomorrow and cancel the package will there be any charges made?
I think there isn't for the Broadband but I'm not sure about the Sports package.
I'm really miffed with BT - I told them I'm a pensioner with just a laptop and smart TV and was just trying to reduce my bill to pay my heating bill but this is going to cost me way more.
I've tried calling but there was a 50 minute wait (it's evening so will try tomorrow) just thought if any body may help as I'm in a real panic to be honest.
Thanks anyone.
First of all why on earth do you want a 900Mbps package for something you can quite happily run on less than 50Mbps?
Call and cancel and get a more suitable package.
Thanks for your reply - yes I will, I'm just in a panic that there will be a huge charge for cancelling the sports package - can't seem to find a Google answer to that one.
Thanks again
I'd like to keep the sports package - could I just cancel the broadband side of the contract?
This is just awful I should try and get these things done by someone else, I feel pretty stupid.
If you really want to save money as suggested go for 100mbps or less
Sadly there's no cheap alternative for the sports and you're looking at around £55 for sky sports and tnt.
Try to buy tnt separately as opposed to getting into a 24 month contract as in seven months time tnt lose ALL of the European football
Yes I saw the sports package was £55 as you say and you need BT broadband, I didn't know you could buy TNT separately. There should really be a line for us old pensioner people. I told the person I only had a laptop and a smart TV and was still sold this 900Mb package.
I know "it's just business" but I've got a sleepless night ahead worrying they'll make pay up for having the sports package just one day. Thanks very much, really appreciate any help.
There is the option of flexing the tv package to just TNT after the 3 months too if you have taken big sport
And don't panic! The 14 days applies to the whole thing, not just broadband
Thanks Gary, flexing the TNT package after 3 months is an interesting option.
One additional thing - a BT email this morning has said that there's been a change to my contract and it won't start till Tuesday (my old contract date). So at least the whole thing including the sports package hasn't actually started yet.
Going to ring them later today and I'll come back to let you know their reply.
Thanks for all your help.
An update.
Called the 0800 800 030 number and spoke to them. They said they will end the new contract but will have to wait for it to start on the 12th. They will put me back on my old one and to ring them in 7 days or so to sort out a new contract.
There wont be any charge.
Pretty painless but I hope it does work out ending the new one and putting me back on the old. He wasn't sure if I'd get some confimation but thought probably I would.
I'll ring them towards the end of next week. They did say I'd go onto a 30 day rolling contract and to contact them to sort out a 24 month one.
Thanks everybody for your support. Really appreciate places like this.
