Early Ending Contract Price

How do I find out how much it will cost if I want to end my contract early?  The details on the website are a little vague.

Re: Early Ending Contract Price

Hi @davidmcluckie   If you follow the early termination charges in the Tariff Guide, you will find the calculation. Only BT can give you an exact figure. https://www.bt.com/content/dam/bt/storefront/pdfs/BT_PhoneTariff_Residential.pdf

TBH , I think BT are one of the better providers when it comes to explaining how the ETC is calculated ..the only variable is the ‘amount BT save by not providing service’ ,  in the example it’s £15 on a £35 monthly bill , but you may pay more or less than that , but the principal is clear , in the example if £140 is the amount BT would have received if the customer hadn’t quit early and the actual ETC is £67 , that’s around half , so a reasonable guide would be to add up the amount per month you would pay and half it , it won’t be exactly correct but will be in the ballpark

Example of a cancellation fee

  • You pay £35 a month and you have four months left in your minimum contract period.
  • We multiply £35 by four months, totalling £140.
  • We take off VAT, reducing it to £116.67.
  • We take off the costs we save, for example, £15 per month, multiplied by 4 = £60, leaving £56.67.
  • We discount by 1% for early receipt, making £56.10.
  • We add on VAT, making your final early termination fee £67.32.
