Email wrongly says I asked to stop direct debits

Go to solution

I received an email from BT today saying: "You recently asked us to stop taking payments by Direct Debit. So from now on you'll need to send us a payment when you get a bill". I haven't made any such request, and MyBT still shows Direct Debits in place. What's going on?

Thanks imjolly, I followed your advice. LiveChat tell me it's a scam (though oddly they didn't seem to know about reporting it to phishing@bt.com). The email did look very convincing, but maybe I should have spotted that it didn't show my account number.
