I have just logged into my account and noticed that my broadband contract was meant to expire end of October and has been automatically extended by 1 year without my agreement or any notification. Don’t appears I am locked in with BT again for another year.. this can’t be allowed or be legal. Can it? How do I cancel this?
Usually, when your initial contract expires, it just goes over to a rolling one month contract, (with a significant price increase). Are you sure it's a one year lock-in and not just monthly?
BT do not normally do 1 year Fixed Term Contracts. Did you at anytime during your Fixed Term Contract add a service such as BTTV to your package and if so what did you add.
Oddly enough I actually cancelled my TV package within mid-end of October. But at no point was it mentioned that my BT contract would be cancelled extended… 🧐🧐
As far as I am aware if you ordered TV that would have started a new broadband contract because you can not have TV without broadband.
It would have been renewed to end at the same time as the TV package.
Automatic renewal of contracts and 12 month contracts are mentioned in the link below.
For me the wording is less than clear and open to interpretation. It shouldn’t apply to this situation in my opinion, but it seems likely that it has.

Brill thank you - I agree it’s not clear. Think I’ll log a complaint
Hmmm thanks for the info…interesting…I cancelled my TV package but that doesn’t give BT the right to renewal my BT broadband with out my permission. I’m gonna complain.
It would have been renewed when you started the TV package not when you ended it. As far as I am aware it will be in the contract or T&Cs. As explained you can't have TV without broadband so the broadband contract must be at least as long as the TV contract even if that means starting/renewing the broadband contract to cover the length of the TV contract.
