Hi I wonder if you can help?
I have receieved a debt collection letter for an account i have never had from Lowell Portfolio.
I had a BT account open already and can verify the accounts i held during that time period and the addresses for them. I am currently in the process of buying a house and this debt has been registered on my credit file - i need it removing straight away. How can i get this sorted now?
I have asked a moderator to provide assistance, they will post an invite on this thread.
They are the only BT employees on this forum, and are based in the UK.
I need to dispute the debt with BT first - can you help?
Also it is not registered on Equifax, it's registered on Experian...
I have tried to dispute this with Experian as you suggest but they won't remove it because Lowell are saying that BT have sold them the debt and therefore as far as they are concerned the debt exists.
How do i go about challenging BT regarding this suposed debt? I don;t see how i can possibly have 2 accounts open at the same time?...
There have been instances where people have left BT, but have still been using their btinternet e-mail addresses assuming they were free. That is no longer the case.
You should be able to judge, by original size of the debt, whether that was the case.
Are you still a BT Broadband customer?
Yes - i'm still a bt broadband customer - the bill is £352 and i've never used a BT email address.
I will see if a moderator can offer more help. The bill seems large, its almost like an old account was cancelled while still in contract, and its cancellation charges.
This is the thing - the account this debt is for is for a time period when i had an exisitng BT account still open so what i'm saying is this is not my debt as i had an account already.
i'm getting desperate because the credit reference agency won't remove it off my file as the third party debt collector won't remove it because they say BT sold it to them. I need BT to check this account and what address it's set up for because it's not for an address that i have lived at as they have been settled, closed and up to date on my credit file.
