Homeless in 2 months

Hey guys, hoping someone can help. When I started my fibre 900 contract (24 months) I asked multiple BT reps what the deal would be if I moved house and FTTP was not available in a new property. Everyone said that if it was not available then BT would technically not be able to fulfil their end of the contract and therefore it could be terminated no problem.

It now has transpired that in 2 months time (10 months into contract) I may be homeless and so not have ANY address to receive Fibre.

Does the above condition still apply and I can mutually terminate my contract?

any help would be really wonderful

Re: Homeless in 2 months

If you can not carry out a Home Move you will need to terminate your contract and that will incur early cancellation fees which is generally the amount of money left on the contract which in your case would be 14months of rental fees.

Leaving BT | BT Help

As far as I am aware the previous information you were given was incorrect. You would only be able to leave without penalty if BT could not supply any type of broadband to the new property.

Re: Homeless in 2 months

So I was falsely advised by two different sales reps when entering into my contract? They both verbally said that if I moved elsewhere without access to Fibre then they would be able to terminate contract no problem. I think I even have it saved as a transcript on a chat log with a rep too

Re: Homeless in 2 months

From what I understand, if a fibre product is available at the new property the contract will continue. Fibre being either FTTC or FTTP. We recently moved and we were on 150mbps G-Fast (Fibre 100) and all that was showing as a available was bog standard FTTC with an estimated speed of 35mbps. As it was still a fibre product, we couldn't cancel. Luckily because the previous tenant was with Sky and the service migrated back to BT, the online BT Retail checker updated within a week and we we regraded back to Fibre 100 at 135mbps.

Re: Homeless in 2 months

You haven't been falsely advised based on the info given, moving to a new address without full fibre 900 & cancelling as you're not moving services to a new address are 2 completely different scenarios

Re: Homeless in 2 months

If I was to find a new house that did not support fibre 900, I was advised that I would be able to terminate contract due to then l not being able to fulfil their end of the contract at new address.

Re: Homeless in 2 months

There will be 4 or 5 times ( at least ) property’s that don’t have OR FTTP compared to those that do, so it would be ridiculous for them to make an offer to someone who currently has OR FTTP that they can be excused ETC by finishing the contract early because their  new property does have OR FTTP.

In your case , you are not saying your new property doesn’t have OR FTTP , you are saying you don’t have a new property to move into (and will be ‘homeless’), so it’s a moot point anyway .

Re: Homeless in 2 months

I hear what you are saying.

It hypothetically if I found somewhere in the next 2 months (so would not be made homeless) and the new house did not support fibre, what would I do.

I was advised more than once that “yeah no problem, you can cancel the contract as we would not be able to fulfil our end of the contract”

on the phone and in a live chat I had reps tell me this. So I feel I may have entered into a contract under false pretences

Re: Homeless in 2 months

If you read your agreed T&C you will only be able. To cancel without any penalty if  BT are unable to provide any service to your new address.  So if BT cannot provide the same FTTP or FTTC or ADSL at new address the you can cancel free
