New flat not coming up

I have currently moved to a new flat and I want to set up BT broadband and TV but was told  that I could only get a speed of 1-5Mb/s. This is not okay for me because my wife and I work from home. Besides I can’t afford to miss the live football matches when  football season starts. Please advise

Re: New flat not coming up

You have missed out the information to the right of the VDSL part, it should either show available or waiting list. If it shows waiting list, then the cabinet is full and no connections are available.

Re: New flat not coming up

Did you use the phone number that you were given when you placed your order for a phone line at the flat? When was the phone service activated at the flat?

Re: New flat not coming up

No. I have not been given a phone number. I just called to order for a BT broadband and then told it is not available for my flat.

Do I need to order for a landline first? Please clarify

Then what phone number did you use for displaying the broadband checker results, as its only accurate if you use the phone number for the new flat?

Is the flat you are moving into, a new build property?

If its not a new build, but an older property, then high speed broadband may not be available.

Try using the address checker option on the broadband availability page, and see what it says for the address of the flat.

If you did use the address, then it will not be accurate until you order a phone line, and are able to use that in the checker.

Re: New flat not coming up

Thanks Keith.

I used the address in the checker actually since I don’t have a phone number. So, if I got your advice, I need to order for a phone line first. Right

Also, you mentioned that if it is an older property, there won’t be a high speed. The apartment has just been newly built in 2019 and the flat itself newly completed.

Re: New flat not coming up

If its a new build, then the developer should have worked with Openreach to provide the infrastructure.

Most recent new build have a direct fibre connection, but as yours was built in 2019, it may just have a copper connection.

Have you been inside to see if there is any Openreach optical equipment inside, it will be a unit on the wall with lights on it? There may only be an normal phone socket on the wall.

As the Openreach database does not get updated until you have an active phone line, its not going to be possible for BT Retail to give you an accurate speed estimate, because the routing would not have been determined for your specific flat.

When you used the address information, what exchange name and cabinet number did it show?

Its quite likely you will have to order a phone connection firs. It will not cost any more money, as any broadband connection includes the line rental anyway, whether you use the phone or not.
