Potential move to BT Basic from Halo1 product - possible to keep BT mobile SIMs as they are?

Go to solution

My cousin has fallen on hard times due to Covid and is skint. With 2 teenagers inthe house and his otehr half he naturally has 4 BT Mobile sims, one main one (his own) and 3 family SIMs.

He currently has VDSL/FTTC/"Fibre" on a Halo package.

He definitely should qualify for BT Basic and putting it mildly, just can't afford his VDSL package any more. (He realises there will be a huge change in useability going from VDSL to ASDL, a technical step back in time to 2003 for him, but has no financial choice)

All SIMs, and the Halo package itself are out of contract right now, rolling over monthly.

Q. If he changed to BT Basic, will he still qualify for the Family SIM prices and would they continue as normal?

Hi @nkjG4NvlQ3LI welcome to the community and thanks for posting, I'm sorry to hear of your cousins hard times it's an unfortunate situation to be in. The good news is that BT Basic customers can have BT Mobile and as he will be continuing with BT broadband the discounts can continue as is.

That's great thanks, with the kids the change would have been a huge logistical problem to change otherwise 🙂

One thing to note is Halo gives double mobile data, fastest 4G and the keep connected promise, these benefits would be lost.

I hope your cousin gets back on his feet soon 🙂

Yes thats a known factor (should have mentioned it in first post actually) - though all their current usage is far less than half their current allowance.

The kids are athletes so spend a lot of time outside, but not really fiddling on their mobiles. Rare these days

edit: and I'm posting them an OpenWRT router to be used as a plug-in-behind-their HH "Dumb AP", with a 4G USB dongle and a prepaid data SIM  for line fault emergencies.
