Re: RETENTIONS - the SCAM of BT overcharging existing customers !!

After my aborted leaving BT and getting a good deal 4 months back, today I received an email encouraging me to "upgrade".  Thing is the best value upgrade on offer was 50% more than I'm currently paying for the very same package! One of the "upgrade" packages offered me very little more and would have doubled my price.

I only learn by making mistakes and owning up to them - boy do I learn a lot!

Re: RETENTIONS - the SCAM of BT overcharging existing customers !!

@Crimliar   Yes, I know exactly what you mean.

I was moving to Sky but they screwed it up, sending CF instead of OR, which would have involved digging up a shared drive.  One of their more senior people then tried to tell me OR sometimes send CF out if they are too busy.  Suffice it to say I put them straight on that and then cancelled the order.

In the meantime, I had spotted a more interesting offer on BT.  It’s a rather convoluted route to get to where I want and several balls are still up in the air, so I won’t go into any details, but interesting how this offer appeared.  To be fair, perhaps I’d just missed it as it looks like FTTC at first glance and I wanted to make the jump to FTTP, but I don’t think it was there before.  Hopefully, by this time next week it should all be sorted.

Re: RETENTIONS - the SCAM of BT overcharging existing customers !!

I am so pleased I have found this thread.

I am in the same position way overpaying for Full Fibre 900 and Halo

I dont need Halo so when it comes to renewal I will just get the Full Fibre 900. Looks like I will pay around £43 per month.

Can someone help me with an issue I lack a bit of knowledge about.

In my Office I have a Black BT Wifi Disc . This is essential as I need a hardwire connection to my Eversolo music streamer.

This is the reason I am scared to leave BT, I assume this wont work with another companys router. Are there any other companies who offer this type of disc where I can hardwire my Music Streamer.

I have googled and discovered Eero, MESH and others but my knowledge is very limited.

Its a shame about BT as its a very reliable service, but I really resent being charged double what a new client pays.

Any guidance will be really appreciated.

I'm not familiar with these myself but message 2 here might be worth a look:

Re: RETENTIONS - the SCAM of BT overcharging existing customers !!

Ah so basically the white BT extender disc would work with any provider. Or the Wifi Home Hotspot 600 as shown in last message.

I am looking at a Disc or something that will work if I leave BT........if I stay with them my current disc will suffice.

I really want to leave them as being ripped off like this does not sit well with me.

I have actually made a complaint to BT in writing this morning, but after reading this thread I may not get any satisfaction.

Thanks for the post

Re: RETENTIONS - the SCAM of BT overcharging existing customers !!

@Kimberlin - Over the past couple of months, at a guess I've probably only spent about 3-4 hours on calls and posts regarding this matter.
The problem I currently have is that I'm working full time and also have a family member in hospital, so it's really only odd occasions when I have a spare bit of time to waste (which is rare).
This is also the reason that I've not already left BT - I have no issue with the service provided, I just want to remove Halo, reduce the cost (close to a new customer or another provider) and keep things simple. Yes there is the 'One Touch' switch route, but unfortunately Sky, Virgin, Plusnet etc... are unable to provide like for like in regards to: landline, TV and mobile.
Whether the recent effort is worth it is another question, BUT I would prefer to challenge poor customer service than just run away and leave the problem for someone else to complain about. Poor business practice should be called out, not covered up. I can afford the overcharging, I just don't like being ripped off.
Yes I've been naive and stupid in continuing to be fleeced, but circumstances have made it difficult to address. The people I feel sorry for are the loyal elderly BT customers who are being rinsed by BT for inferior broadband packages.

@Puma937  While I agree with you, I will point out that such practice seems to be rife across the board in this country today and not just among broadband providers either.

Re: RETENTIONS - the SCAM of BT overcharging existing customers !!

@gg30340 'Have you actually tried using the online system, "not the offers for you"  by logging onto your MyBT then clicking on the Broadband button in the menu bar to see what prices of the packages are for existing customers rather than going through customer services?'

Yes of course......there are no prices or options shown. Is this even available to anyone?
If I log into MyBT there are no existing customer price options. Only the option to 'Upgrade Broadband' under Existing Customers. If I click on this, there are still no upgrade options available at all for broadband, just TV deals.  I have been told that this is because I am out of contract.
Just out of interest, are you able to screenshot any new customer prices for Halo 3+?

Re: RETENTIONS - the SCAM of BT overcharging existing customers !!

Yes I wonder how long after you have been out of contract, to then be deemed a new customer and then maybe the offers come up for us.

Its a dreadful way to treat existing customers.
