I've had exactly the same, all my kit returned in the bag provided with the label provided and 6 weeks later, i have looked every where but cannot find the receipt, thought nothing of it, and now im being charged over £300 as i cant provide BT with the proof of posting. Can someone help. I have returned this but i cannot afford to pay £300 for something i no longer have and BT must have received this by now?
@NHarwood1 - BT have a warehouse full of returned equipment that remains 'unprocessed' for weeks. The last time I returned an item, they seemed very blasé about the whole matter. Firstly I had to request a bag 3 times and when I did chase receipt (quoting a proof of postage reference) they couldn't care less that Royal Mail had confirmed delivery. The adviser stated that they were inundated with returns and that it would be recorded at some point. A note was put on my account anyway, stating that the kit had been returned.
I would assume that the letter has been automatically generated. Have you tried calling and actually speaking to someone? You will be given the runaround, but just persevere.
On the flip side, how did you actually think you would prove the return without 'proof of postage'. Food for thought next time the situation arises.
try contacting billing using message now and see if they can help you or phone CS 03301234150
obviously the onus is on you to get and retain proof of posting just for this very reason

@Puma937 "The adviser stated that they were inundated with returns...". Interesting comment. That in itself suggests BT are losing a lot of customers.

That is no doubt because of the push to have BT customers moved over to EE which as you may now know is no longer the case, although they are still offering a move to EE on their website and no doubt some of the Customer Service sales people will be still pushing people that way in order to get their commission.
Yes, good point.
