Return equipment

Go to solution

Does anyone else have any issue with the BT return equipment, I posted the equipment back using the bag supplied and the prepaid self adhesive label on 30th May, the item was on 48 hour tracking which was signed for on the 1st June. On our account it still shows awaiting return.

How long does it take for them to update one's account.

It is not unusual for BT to take a few weeks to update your account to show you have returned your items. As long as you have the tracking number you can phone CS 03301234150 and get account updated

It does say in the email from BT when you switch or terminate your contract, that it can take up to three weeks to process the return. I believe it was around two weeks after I sent my equipment back that I received confirmation from BT that they had received my kit.

It might not apply to you, but the amount of folks who post that they've somehow lost their proof of posting, defies belief. I mean, it isn't hard to take a picture of the proof of posting receipt or put it away in a draw in case you need it.

Thank you for your reply and help with this, I am still with BT as just renewed the contract. They sent me an upgraded EE hybrid connect, yet the previous one was functioning correctly.

Re: Return equipment

Just for the benefit for anyone reading this in the future, I got an email SEVEN weeks after the Royal Mail tracking website confirmed they'd received my return package telling me I'd likely be charged for the missing equipment.

Calling them and giving them the tracking number resulted in an immediate confirmation the package had been received followed by an email confirming I wouldn't be charged. I was informed that it was Royal Mail's fault for not telling them they had delivered the package to BT. (It would appear that BT don't know what they've received until they're told it has been delivered - the logic of that defies any common sense explanation.)

Keep the tracking number and call them after THREE weeks. Something sounds broken at the returns centre and they've no incentive to fix it, I presume, whilst they think they can still bill customers for their inefficiency. Of course, this relies on their hope that customers will not make a note of their tracking number nor track and trace the package themselves.

To avoid being billed for it, if you're returning kit to them it's probably best to assume they are incompetent and prepare to evidence your compliance with their system even if they can't.

I actually got a text reminding me to return the equipment.  It said if you have already done this then reply to this text with your tracking number. Within hours it was confirmed as received.
