Security questions during phone order

Hi, bit of an odd one - placed an order with BT tonight over the phone. During the process was asked for mothers maiden name and model of first car… duly gave the information but afterward thought it was odd to be asked for answers to those type of security questions during the order process. Has anyone else had similar experiences?

Take it this was a brand new connection? They're standard so they have the answers for future ref & for you setting up your bt id

Re: Security questions during phone order

Yes - I’ve been a customer for approx 10 years but at renewal couldn’t get access to a sensible price for full fibre package - was told the best option was to close existing account and set up a new account as a new customer to access new customer pricing on the package I wanted… makes sense that they would need them but caught me off guard a bit and felt slight uneasy as soon as I put the phone down! Thanks for the reply.
