Why has my landline with anytime calls increased so much?

Go to solution

Have just downloaded my BT bill - it seems to have increased amazingly.

Google tell me that the landline monthly rental is £15.99 plus £7 a month for anytime calls.

Total £22.99

I don't have broadband.

Yet the latest bill is £29.62 plus out of plan calls.

Can anyone explain, please?

How would Google know what the price is?  BT have a tariff guide you can check.  What plan does your bill say you are on?

Google is wrong, BT line rental hasn't been £15.99 since around 2015, last year it was £19.99, after the March CPI price change it's now £20.20

Unlimited calls could be a various amount, BT have several calling plans which include anytime calls, your bill has a breakdown which will explain.

If you don’t have broadband from BT or anyone else, there is a ‘telephony only’ plan that reduces line rental to around £12-£13, or a deal with that and inclusive calls, plus calling features ( call waiting, caller divert , or that type of thing ) for £21-£22 , these prices may be out by a small amount, but only available to BT customers without broadband, cheaper than regular line rental and calls, by around £7 a month just for line rental

Yes I tried to find out on the BT website - their charges are listed in a document 217 pages long.

I gave up after about 40 pages.  Even in lockdown isolation I don't have the time to read all that, let alone discover where is the information I need.       Most of it was about broadband which I don't have from BT.

Google is usually the easiest source of information, but not always the most reliable, which is why I asked the question here before making a complaint.

My bill says that I have an unlimited Anytime plan at a monthly cost of £29.62.

Sorry, am replying in the wrong order - I took earliest email notification first.

I do have broadband, but with another company.

Thanks for explaining current landline price.

If you have broadband even if you don’t use BT for it, ‘standard’ line rental and anytime calls would be in the region of £30/month...there is now a cost of living increase based on CPI , so a small increase in the last couple of months was applied

Ah, OK - thank you.

It seems my bill is right then.

If only we had a proper mobile signal where we live, we could do away with the expensive landline.

Never mind.  thanks for your help
