Will I be forced into the new packages

Go to solution

Currently I’m still on the old BTTV packages and having priced the new Now TV packages it would mean paying a lot more than I’m currently paying. As it is I already have Now TV courtesy of Tesco vouchers. I have Netflix and amazon prime.

ive watched my BT package rocket to be almost the same as the old sky package. We are both disabled and one of the things that was a huge advantage was the contact centre for disabled folk.  When I was discussing this with a BT rep who was on the phone re my broadband package I was assured that Halo2 was ideal for us. Another price rise. We are now barely affordingthe full bt package.

I had a call a few days ago about changing the tv package and I said I didn’t want to as this would tip me into the unaffordable category. The guy had an accent I could barely understand and he told me that if I didn’t change over I soon would be forced into it.

im gutted as I can’t get out of the full package without paying a lot. I’m actually happy enough with the broadband but if they force me down the road of changing to the new tv packages is that not a material change to my contract that would give me the right to cancel without charge?

Hi @Bobbs

Like you I'm on one of the old packages, speaking to BT last week I was told that when my discount runs out on my old TV package in December it's 'unlikely' that I'll get another discount but I should be able to continue the package.

At some point though BT you would think that BT would cease the old packages, in the unlikely event that they do this when you are still in a contract for TV then it would be penalty free. More likely you would be told that your package would cease at the end of your contract.

Thank you so much Andy. It’s just galling but I suppose I will go to freeview. I assume that the box will stop working at that time. We’ve had it for 4 years so I doubt they will want it back

Your box will still work as a freeview recorder I believe and you won't have to return it. There is the Classic Entertainment Package for £10 per month but you have to go to the bottom of the page to find it.

I might be wrong, but the problem with the current Classic Entertainment Package option is that it's only available in SD (Standard Definition).

There doesn't seem a way to "boost" it to HD (High Definition).

Or has this changed?

Just run through an order for the Classic Entertainment Package and HD is an add on

Hi @StewM

So this is good news!

It wasn't very clear at the beginning!

This is great!

Mmm, not so sure now...

There is no mention of the actual classic entertainment channels, only Sport and AMC

Can a MOD please confirm that the HD Boost at £5 does in fact boost the Classic Entertainment Package to HD?

I thought that when the new packages launched Classic Entertainment was SD only, there was a lack of information then and seemingly there still is. A customer shouldn't have start the buying process to see what is or isn't included, even then it should be explicitly clear. When it isn't it's usually done that way for a reason.

Everything is so vague about it and IMO it’s a considerable hike in prices under the guise of giving the customer so much choice.

i just feel that considering my BT package seems to have trebled in the past 3 years and that’s despite paying my line rental upfront. Granted we are on a better broadband speed but if I recall when the salesperson called me up it was a case of oh it will only cost £5  extra. Everything seems to be Olay £5 extra but for some reason it’s trebled what I pay. I’ve told hubby that if we are forced down the route of the new package then wee will be having free view or Freesat.
