i had seen that you could have bt essentials for £20  if in receipt of benefit i phoned bt to try and change over to this

offer but they said it could not be done as the benefits were in wife name  joint claim and the contract we have is in my name

the chap on the phone tried is best to change it but it would not accept my wifes national insurance number or mine

Re: home essentials

Hi @Sooty5454, welcome to the community.

As you are the account holder, you will need to be in receipt of any benefit in order to be eligible for Home Essentials.

Best advise I can give is once your contract ends, your wife (who is in receipt of the benefits) can setup a new account which will take over your account and will basically change the account holder to your wife's name.

Hope this helps.

Re: home essentials

DanielS  moderator who  sorted it for me ,i had same problem ,was told going to sort the problem out if it not account holder who main benefit claimant i.e my wife is disabled on ESA and i am on her claim but BT account was in my name so account name was switched to her name.
