recent default

Good day.

We defaulted our account in 2022 when we switch to Virgin and didn't send the equipment back. We got took to a debt collection agency and we paid this off by September 2023.

Fast forward to June 2026  and after checking my credit report BT have put a default on my account stating that month  a bill of £786. This was paid off in September 2023 as stated above so how can BT default this now when we paid it off. its having a more negative effect on my credit score when i have been working to get it straight.

Any one else had this problem and how do i correct it

Re: recent default

This is a customer to customer support forum, so no one here can fix issues such as yours.

However, you may be misundrstanding how credit ratings work.  If at the end of a contract you fail to return equipment that was a part of a hire agreement, this can end up as a default and show on your credit score.  Paying off what you owe, does not clear your credit score, you have to build this back up over time!  The reason being that your credit score is there for organisations that are likely to loans you money or things in the future, and people who default once are more likely to default again!

There are plenty of guides on line showing how to repair bad credit ratings (never pay anyone to do this as a service - those tend to be scams).
