trying to help elderly neighbour

Go to solution

Hi, I have an elderly neighbour who already has a BT landline (£22 a month) she now wants to get a new smart television and avail herself of BBCiPlayer, please can anyone advise on the best way to go about this? are the prices quoted by BT for broadband on top of what she already pays for the line, some told me that BT can even do a broadband deal for if you don't already have a phone and the price of that is equal to the same del for someone who has a line already, confused!!!

No, the prices quoted for broadband include the line rental, your best option is give BT a ring when you're with the account holder, the sales team will guide you through the order process, they will need to do some security validation which your neighbour will be able to answer.

BT will supply her with a home hub to connect to the internet, it will be provided free of charge on loan, there will most likely be a £9.99 postage charge for the delivery, you can pay it when you order broadband or most people just add it to their next bill.
If help is needed to connect the hub, ask the sales person to include an assisted install, there's a one-off fee of £30 or you could try setting it up yourself, the box includes a guide and there's only a few wires, whatever works best.

When it comes to a calling plan, you will have options, the sales person will be able to access your neighbours bills, they'll know how many minutes are used and can recommend the most suitable calling plans, they can also be changed or removed in the future.

If you or your neighbour need some help getting online, BT have a range of free guides that can be found on the Skills for Tomorrow pages, there's loads for beginners.

Post back if you have any more questions or need any help 🙂
