Re: BT Parental controls are broken

Go to solution

I'm a Me Too for this problem. It started after I cancelled out of extending my broadband contract (to get BT Sport for free, but I wanted to check what would happen if I moved house).

When I checked the status of Parental Controls in My BT, they were de-activated. In an attempt to resolve the issue I activated Parental Controls, waited a couple of hours, then de-activated - and deleted - them. My BT now once more says "Activate" for the Parental Controls option, which should mean they are not activated on my account. However If I change my DNS back to Google's DNS, which I was using, I still get the error message:

"You're seeing this page because BT Parental Controls is active and you are attempting to connect to a DNS server outside of our network.
You may have selected a different server in your network settings or installed an application that uses an alternative service."

Several restarts of the Hub, and clearing browser caches, has had no effect.

I have also enabled/disabled the parental controls to see if that would fix the issue without any joy.

Any mods around that are able to look into this? I think its something that needs to be addressed and fixed quickly. Using BT's DNS is not a solution for some of us that need to use an alternative dns service

Re: NOT AGAIN!

Hi PheeragHfre,

Thanks for posting. Sorry your relative is having problems with this. I think john46 is correct in this instance so could you get your relative to log on to their MyBT just to check if parental controls has been switched on?

Cheers

Re: BT Parental controls are broken

Update: I have just reset my DNS servers back to Google (making no other changes, nor resetting the hub), and I have full web access, no more Parental Control messages.

Perhaps someone did something in the BT back office; here's hoping it's a permanent fix..

All good here now, Google or Open DNS both work again 🙂
