BT_WiFi ((Fon) bit of a moan.....

Since having Infinity back in April, I have struggled with the HH5 and BT WiFi.

short story long... Opted out way back in order to reduce the load on the homehub, keep SSID tidy and not to tell everyone and his dog that our house is running a BT Service.

My BT account shows 'Opted Out=True' with no issue; but the stubborn HH keeps changing itself back to thinking it is Opted-In and thus reenabling BT_WiFI-with-FON and BT_WiFi-X SSID's.  I have been round the houses many times with the telephone technical team (usually ending up in a Basil Fawlty tantrum after hanging up due to being called a liar, spoken too like I was six, and generally being treated like a muppett).

Now I am just venting a little; but is it hard to understand that I can clearly see my Homehub5 has changed itself to 'BT WiFi - Enabled' and is broadcasing the two public access SSID's when I have not requested the change; nor welcome it?  I have even copied them the logs (showing the SSID's enabled etc) and still I am told I am wrong and that it is someone nearby.   (just for info There is only one household in WiFi range of my house and they are on plusnet).

the latest session was a week ago, when the HH updated itself from OpenRT and once again decided it wated to be 'Opted-In'  - (/scream)

maybe someone here has the telephone number of a senior network tech so I can get it sorted once and for all?

failing that I would dearly love to drop the HH out of a window and get a Dratek - just not a financial option, with being off work poorly for who knows how much longer 😞

Any suggestions, Tips etc welcome here please (and spare valiums....)

(last bit was a joke....

Thanks all - Rachel in Dorset

Re: BT_WiFi ((Fon) bit of a moan.....

I also opted out of BT Wifi a while back and my status shows:

"BT Wi-fi community status:     Opted Out"

However of course just like so many others, my Home Hub 5 is still broadcasting 2.4GHz and 5GHz  BT Wifi because it has never been sent the TR069 disable messages.

So mods please how do I get to be really opted out? Can you intervene?

Re: BT_WiFi ((Fon) bit of a moan.....

Thanks - I have done so. Can I look forward to some TR069 messages wending their way across the ether at some point in the near future?

Re: BT_WiFi ((Fon) bit of a moan.....

still not sorted.  have been told (again) to use the optout page (I see this in my sleep lol)...

reply from BT:

I am really sorry for the inconvenience caused. I had a word with the Product specialist, who has confirmed the Wifi enable will be deactivate only after 28 to 30 days of time. If you have any further queries please reply to the email.

we shall see 😞 /sigh

NEWS

email today confirming there is a bbug in the homehub5 firmware that is causing it to revert to setting open WiFi=Active even when it has been told by the TR069 server that it is Inactive.

BT tell me to wait while their firmware chaps work on it and sometime in the future will release a firmware update to solve it.

/holdsbreath ... lol

better than nowt (Ive been telling them for months that the homehub firmware isn't persisting its OpenWiFi settings)

My HH5 hasn't even been sent the TR069 disable messages yet.
