Important updates to your virus and password protection

Hi Everyone,

We're updating your online security to NortonTM.

As UK leaders in online security and tech innovation, we’ll always give you the best tools to stay protected from online harm.  And as cyber security threats are constantly changing, we’re moving to NortonTM as standard with every broadband package.

What’s changing?

From midnight on31st March 2022, BT Virus Protect and the Truekey Password Manager from McAfee will no longer be provided by BT.

From 13th December 2021, you’ll be able to switch and download the new BT Virus Protect product powered by NortonTM and the new Norton Password ManagerTM from My BT.

What does this mean for you?

You can do this anytime between 13th December 2021 and 31st March 2022, but we recommend you doing it as soon as possible.

When you download the new BT Virus Protect and Norton Password ManagerTM you'll be asked to agree to new terms and conditions.

If you'd like to transfer your passwords from the Truekey password manager to Norton Password ManagerTM you can do so by following the steps in our FAQ's

From the end of January 2022,  if you haven’t switched to Norton, you may notice some changes to the BT Virus Protect app where it will no longer mention BT. The protection will still be the same and will carry on working up until 31st March 2022.

What do you get with the new BT Virus Protect?

  • You’ll still get online protection to keep your PCs, Laptops, Macs, Android smartphones and tablets safe from viruses. It will also warn you if you’re about to visit a harmful website, or if you’re about to connect to an unsecured network and it will block unauthorised traffic to your computer - helping to protect your information from cybercriminals.

You’ll also get the following new features:

  • SMS Security* - helps keep you and your Android device safer from texts with phishing links. It helps identity SMS text messages with unsafe links and notifies you to help prevent you from inadvertently clicking on them and potentially putting your personal information at risk.
  • PC SafeCam** - Your webcam lets you keep in close contact with family, friends or colleagues but can be vulnerable to attack, and may give cybercriminals the potential to view into your home, your daily routine, and personal information. PC SafeCam alerts you to attempts to access your webcam and helps you block unauthorised access to it.
  • Protection Report Card - is a summary of all the activities that have been performed to help protect your device and information stored on it in the last 30 days.

* Android only

** Windows PC only

Which features will not be included in BT Virus Protect powered by NortonTM?

  • Lock Device: lock your device remotely if lost or stolen.
  • Anti-Theft Protection: locate lost or stolen devices with the BT Portal.
  • App Privacy: lock apps behind a secure PIN

Re: Important updates to your virus and password protection

Why am I still seeing the McAfee app when trying to download the BT Virus Protect app powered by Norton on Google Play?

You may be seeing the McAfee app because you’ve got an operating system which is less than version 8.x on your Android device. To get the new BT Virus Protect app powered by Norton your device must have version 8.x and above.

To find and update your Android device to the latest version, follow the below steps:

Find out your current Android operating system version:

• From the Home screen, tap the Settings icon to go to the settings.

• Tap About Phone or About Device.

• Under Android Version, you can find the version of Android that runs on your device.

How to update your Android operating system version:

1. From the Home screen, tap the Settings icon to go to settings.

2. Tap System and then tap System update. If you cannot find System update, you may need to scroll down or tap Advanced.

3. If an Android update is available for your device, tap Install to download and install the update.

4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Thanks,

Robbie

Re: Important updates to your virus and password protection

Can’t install BT Virus Protect on iPhone/iPad?

Unfortunately, the BT Virus Protect App is NOT available on IOS devices.

However, the Norton Password Manager App can be downloaded from the app store to store/manager passwords securely.

Cheers
