I have been trying to load the new software for 7 hours. The downloader program has been downloaded. The program asks if I want to uninstall Norton & keep my passwords or uninstall it. The laptop came with pre-loaded Norton software which I have never used. I tried both options and I end up with a screen that states 'preparing to uninstall'. The screen stays like this for a long time. I have cancelled the uninstall on 2 occasions. Leave it alone I thought start again. I have done this yet it has been hanging like this for 2 1/2 hours as I type.
Is this how long it takes to uninstall a program?
I too am having problems. Been trying for past 6 hours to install. The laptop came with Norton but have never used it. Once software has downloaded it asks if I wish to re-install or delete existing program. I have selected both and it just freezes saying 'Preparing to uninstall' for a couple of hours.
I have moved the post that you had on another thread onto your own thread. Posting the same problem on multiple threads only lead to confusion as regards who the answers are directed to and duplication of effort by those replying.
If you have a preloaded trial version of Norton on your computer you should have removed that before trying to install the BT version.
If the computer is "hanging" when you try to uninstall either of the versions you should "Restart" you computer, note "Restart" and not just a shut down and start.
Once it restarts us the Windows uninstall from the "Control Panel" method as shown here.
Uninstall or remove apps and programs in Windows 10 (microsoft.com)
You want to remove all of Norton so if you are offered the option to keep certain files etc decline it.
I should have made it clear that I had already removed the Norton program. The screen just hangs with preparing to uninstall for now 4 1/2 hours.
I would do a Restart of the computer and then download and run the free version of CCleaner. This should clear out any remnants of Norton that may be left on your computer after you uninstalled the "trial" version.
Use the Custom Clean and Registry cleaner. If you get an option to back up the registry use that option. After doing that restart your computer again and try installing Norton.
