Parental Controls still not activated after 24 hours

I would welcome some advice on how to get Parental Controls activated on my account. I have already followed these steps but I am still able to access content that is supposed to be blocked by the preset filters. Inputting any 'blocked content' site url directly will return the home page for that site. Thanks.

Hi @DevonJules,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for posting.

Sorry to hear that Parental Controls have not activated, I appreciate the problems this can cause.

I've sent you a Private Message with details on how you can get in contact with the mod team so we can look into this for you.

Thanks

Matt

Hi @DevonJules thanks for sending over your details, I left a quick message on your answering service there to let you know that I've identified the problem with your parental controls and have raised a case to get that fixed. As soon as I have any further updates I'll get back in touch with you.

Re: Parental Controls still not activated after 24 hours

Hi Neil,

Just so you are aware, I have currently have the Parental Controls turned off on the account as the feature only blocks certain material. e.g. type the term 'self harm' into the address bar and a full set of results are returned. Type in the term 'pornographic' into the address bar and all associated material was blocked. However, since deactivation of the feature I am now unable to access certain site e.g. Facebook. Furthermore, access times to previously accessed websites has considerably slowed the time taken to display the respective home page. Frankly, I wish I had never activated this function!! Regards, Julian

Re: Parental Controls still not activated after 24 hours

Hi @DevonJules I'm so sorry about the delay replying, the faults team have advised that they're unable to investigate the issue with the parental controls switched off.

Can you try clearing your browsers cookies and cache and reply here to let me know if that has helped with accessing facebook and improved the website response time?

Re: Parental Controls still not activated after 24 hours

Hi Neil

Parental Controls have been re-activated on my account. The Facebook login page is accessible again so that is ok. However,  https://www.selfharm.co.uk/ and similar subject matter which I wish to block is still accessible with the light filter preset activated. Cheers, Julian

Re: Parental Controls still not activated after 24 hours

@DevonJules Hi Julian, many thanks for getting back to me, our parental controls filters will not block https://www.selfharm.co.uk/ as they are a registered charity who offer support and assist recovery from self harm. They are not promoting or encouraging self harm so the filters will not block that content but you could manually add that site to the blocked list if you want.

Hate and Self-harm This category will block sites that promote or encourage self-harm or self-injury. The category also includes sites that encourage the oppression of people or groups based on their race, religion, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation or nationality.

There is no fault with the service and it is working as intended. I'd recommend you check out the parental controls user guide on this link for more information on what content the different categories will block, it also explains how you can add specific websites that you'd like to block.
