bt wifi hotspots logging out but smart phone carries on

Hi  I have recently inherited a flat and am able to get a bt wifi hotspot connection which is handy as I live 200 miles away and so when I come down to work on the flat, the hot spot is very handy but why does it keep logging out after about 3-5 minutes when my smart phone doesn't and continues to get wifi without continually having to log on??

laptop login v smart phone login

Can some one explain to me why I have to log in on my laptop all the time using a btwifi hotspot.  If I don't stay using the laptop whilst connected it will disconnect after 5mins or so and have to login again where as my smart phone remains logged in all the time. what can I do to stay logged in like my smart phone?
