I am assuming you are a BT Broadband customer.

If you are referring to BTWifi as against your BT Broadbands wireless signal then that is how BTWifi works.

Your laptop may connect automatically to the BTWifi signal but to authenticate your use of BTWifi you have to log on using your BTID.

See link > Connection Help > BT Broadband > Laptop\computer > Connect to a Hotspot

Get wireless Internet | Find wi-fi hotspots | BT Wi-Fi

Hi, yes I am a BT broadband customer and have been since the beginning. Thank you for your answer. Is there is no way to automate the log in? When I am away from home if the signal is weak I keep losing the connection and then have to go through the whole process over and over again. You even have to choose "broadband" from the drop down menu. So frustrating. Thanks, Martin.

It is the only way on a laptop.

If you have a mobile device you can download the BTWifi app and that can be set to log you in automatically and stores your BTID but there is no such facility with a laptop.

That sucks! But thank you for breaking the bad news, at least I know!
